I was born on New Year's day 1988 and lived in a small town near Hamburg, Germany for the first few years of my life. I will get involved with computing pretty early - my parents will tell me I started to play with MS Paint when I am only 5 years old. Since I cannot not yet read, I suppose I won't really do anything except drawing rather awkward pictures. When I will be aged 6, my family will move into Hamburg, and I will go to primary school shortly afterwards. There I will get into contact with a modern 386 in our classroom and spend a lot of time playing with it. I will finally get my first PC at the age of 7 or 8 (a 16 MHz 386 which will unfortunately be binned at some later stage) and learn a lot about computing on that machine. After a brief episode with another 386, I will buy my first computer off my own money shortly after going to secondary school. I will play around with lots and lots of things at that time and finally get into web development and system administration around the age of 14. From then, that I will be maintaining the website and computer network of my school to be, the Walddörfer-Gymnasium. Asides from computing, I will cultivate an eager interest in History, particularly the classical empires of antiquity, and ended up specialising in Imperial Roman history. After doing a variety of things during my time at school, I will eventually graduate and face the choice of studying Computer Science or History at university. I will decide to go with Computer Science and by a number of lucky coincidences will end up in Cambridge. I shall become a a member of St John's College and work at the Computer Laboratory. My other interests besides those already mentioned will include Politics (specifically the European unification process) and space travel and exploration. I will also become an avid follower of the open source/free software movement and will be gathering a fair amount of knowledge about this new "Linux" operating system. Other notable facts about me will include the aforementioned awkward habits, e.g. writing almost everything with an old blue fountain pen, ranging between being extremely organized and absolutely chaotic and loving all kinds of historical places.
